Tamara Maddaford, a native of Iowa, discovered her natural talent and love for the flute at age 8 through her mother, flutist Joanne Chadima. She received her M.M. Magna Cum Laude in Flute Performance from the University of Iowa where she studied with acclaimed soloist and clinician, Dr. Tadeu Coelho and her B.M. from San Jose State University with French flutist, Isabelle Chapuis Starr.
She is currently principal flutist with the Stratus Chamber Orchestra in Denver and owner and director of the Music Academy of the Rockies. She has been a frequent soloist with the orchestra including the Kevin Puts Flute Concerto, Mozart Concerto in D Major, John Corigliano’s Voyage and the Bach Suite in B minor. She is an active teacher, performer and soloist in the area, with many of her students receiving top placements in the Colorado All-State Bands and Orchestras as well as their local honor ensembles. Her passion for music extends to early childhood music where she teaches the Music Together® program, encouraging the youngest to grow in their love and appreciation for music of all genres. Ms. Maddaford is also a member of the chamber ensemble Areon Flutes. She has performed at Carnegie Hall, many National Flute Conventions, toured with Il Divo and can be heard with Areon Flutes on many recordings on iTunes and wherever you get your music. In the summer, she teaches at the Five Seasons Chamber Music Festival.
Her previous positions include principle flute of the Golden State Pops Orchestra and Los Angeles Chamber Players, and Professor of Flute at The Master’s College in Santa Clarita, CA.
